Brenden’s Friday Backpacks began in 2011 with 4 children in a single school and has grown to a program that currently feeds over 1600 children in 60 schools throughout Jefferson County on a weekly basis during the school year. The program is run entirely by volunteers and takes anonymous referrals directly from local schools.
Jefferson R-VII hosted a food drive the month of February with all proceeds going to Brenden’s Friday Backpack. As a district we collected 12, 246 items in monetary and food donations. Once everything was collected, the Jefferson High School Leadership team began filling individual bags with items that were donated. These bags go out every friday and consist of single-serve, non-perishable, kid-friendly foods that can be easily prepared and last until the child returns to school the next week. We appreciate everyone who helped make this food drive successful.
